Staying fit and healthy these Christmas holidays

Christmas ham, chocolates, lollies and overindulging in mince tarts and pudding – we’re all guilty of it.

Often people describe ‘going off the rails’ during the Christmas holiday period, but it doesn’t have to be that way!

The home doctor experts from House Call Doctor have put together a few tips to make sure you enjoy your Christmas but also keep fit and healthy!
Christmas Day

You often hear people telling you they stop eating the day before to make room for a Christmas Day feast, but this is sillier than the silly season itself! Throughout the season, more social events often lead to more food and alcohol being consumed. If you’re consuming a lot of food, like on Christmas Day, for your digestive system’s sake, it’s important to keep active and moving. If you’re a family that has multiple courses, get up and go for a walk in between, or play some cricket in the backyard. This gets us and our food moving so that we don’t feel bloated.

Exercise

Exercise often becomes second priority in the festive season, and that’s okay! It’s important to not beat yourself up over deciding to go to your Christmas party rather than the gym! If you want to stay on track, try and fit in a 20-minute HIIT workout at home wherever you can, to burn off those extra glasses of wine!

Let’s be honest, Christmas is a time of joy and happiness for the whole family – so don’t stress out over losing your fitness progress or overindulging a few too many times. Have fun, enjoy your loved ones’ company and have a very Merry Christmas!
