What is included in LASIK eye surgery?

There are many variations of refractive laser surgery. Lasik Los Angeles is the best known and the most practiced. Many articles, including this one, use the term “LASIK” to refer to any type of laser eye surgery.

Typically, the image is focused on the retina behind the eye. In the case of nearsightedness, hyperopia, and astigmatism, it ultimately causes visual impairment by focusing on the front or back of the retina.

Nearsightedness (nearsightedness) is a condition in which nearby objects are visible, but distant objects are blurry. When the eyeball is slightly longer than usual or the cornea is curved too much, the light focuses on the front of the retina and blurs distance vision. Nearby objects are more visible, but distant objects are invisible.

Hyperopia (hyperopia) is a situation where distant objects are visible, but nearby objects are blurred. If the eyeball is shorter than average or the cornea is too flat, the light is focused on the back of the retina, not the retina. This can lead to fuzzy myopia and, in some cases, hyperopia.

Astigmatism can cause general blurring. When the cornea is unevenly curved or flattened, astigmatism results, and the focus of near and far vision is blurred.

Traditionally, blurry eyes are adjusted by bending (refracting) light doing glasses and contact lenses. However, the reshaping of the cornea (the transparent dome-shaped tissue in front of the eye) itself can also provide the necessary refraction and vision correction.

Before LASIK surgery, your eye doctor will evaluate the detailed measurements of your eye and assess the overall health of your eye. You may be asked to take a light sedative before the surgery. After lying comfortably on the operating table, apply eye drops. Then it uses a special type of cutting laser to precisely change the curvature of the cornea. Each pulse of the laser beam removes a small amount of corneal tissue, allowing the ophthalmologist to flatten or accentuate the curve of the cornea.

Most often, surgeons create a flap over the cornea and lift it before reshaping the cornea. There are variations with very thin flaps, no flaps at all or no flaps at all. Each technique has advantages and disadvantages.

Ophthalmologists may specialize in certain types of laser eye surgery. The differences between them are generally small, and none of them significantly outperform the other. You can consider it according to your situation and your tastes.
